Annie Nugent has practiced since 1979 and was an IMS Resident Teacher, 1999-2003. Her teaching style aims to reveal how all aspects of our lives can help us come to a clear and direct understanding of the Truth.
The outer renunciation by paring down our activities on retreat supports the inner renunciation of attitudes and unskillful qualities that obstruct our seeing the truth of the way things are.. which really reveals the happiness of renunciation - it takes us to freedom.
Gratitude comes when we appreciate life as a gift from which we can learn, discover
and come to understand the Truth of existence. Seeing the scope of the
Buddhadharma allows for gratitude to come to the fore... because we see that the teachings work...oh joy!
Relearning the meaning of effort in our practice.. Including the practice of Bodhicitta as a means to ignite the impetus/courage to open to difficulties that might arise. When we have the freedom of all beings at heart we are motivated by compassion to do what must be done.
By practicing Loving Kindness the heart opens, allowing the love that is already there, within us, to come forth – imbuing us with strength and courage to open to all of experience, thus the barriers that create separation melt away.
